Snow surfboards and a rider on a sunny forest slope

A day with Aihki

Your experience

Try snow surfing on natural hills near Rovaniemi with a local guide. A board without bindings, soft snow and a forest slope are the starting point for this active winter experience. No previous snowboarding experience is needed.

From your first few metres on the board to a warm drink with your group. Here is how your day in the snow unfolds.

Leaving the city behind

Your guide picks you up at the agreed time. As the city gives way to snowy trees, there is time to ask questions about the day ahead. The slope is chosen to suit the snow, weather and your group.

At the activity site, you get ready in winter overalls and boots, choose a helmet and meet your snow surfboard. The clothing and equipment are included in the price.

Your first few metres

A snow surfboard has no bindings, so your feet are free. It may feel unfamiliar at first. Your guide helps you find your stance and shows you how to slow down and turn.

You start with short attempts. A few metres is enough to begin getting a feel for the board. There is time to ask questions, find your balance and try again.

One run at a time

You step off the trail and sink into soft snow. This is what makes snow surfing possible. You place your board on the snow and try another short run, with your guide nearby to help.

As you feel more comfortable, you can try longer runs. You walk back uphill between attempts, so this is an active experience. Take your time and let your guide know when you need a pause.

A moment in the forest

Between runs, you have time to look around. Notice the snow on the branches, your tracks on the slope and the forest around you. There is more to the day than learning to stay on the board.

Pause for a photograph, watch the others take their turns or simply enjoy a quiet moment in the winter landscape.

A warm break together

There is a break for a warm drink and a snack. Rest for a while, talk with your guide and share the little moments from the slope: the first few metres, a turn that felt easier or a tumble into the soft snow.

It is a chance to catch your breath and enjoy being outdoors together.
